DCOMMANDER REVIEW FULL

It comes in a bunch of cool colours - I went for the Matte Black version, also included is an internal flip down sun visor, a pinlock lens for those foggy conditions, removable inner liner, a box full of bits and pieces to mount an action camera and a few tools to remove the peak for that naked look. It’s a nice looking helmet that is purpose built for adventure, and unlike some of the cheaper offerings the Airoh is not an adapted MX or Street helmet with a few extra bits thrown on. I’ve had an eye on the Airoh Commander helmet for while, they retail here for $625 AUD which is somewhere in the middle of the market. On the other hand, take a road hemet down a decent gravel road and you’ll immediately notice the lack of ventilation at low speed and dust building up underneath your visor. I know that I’m stating the obvious here, but as a general statement, motocross helmets are terrible when there are higher speeds and tarmac involved - the wind noise and buffeting will drive you cuckoo. Both helmets are great, but neither of them really tick the boxes when it comes to adventure riding. Up until now I’ve been switching between helmets depending on the ride and weather, with my road going Shoei XR 1100 street helmet and Bell Moto 9 Flex motocross helmet. This isn’t a tyre review so I won’t get into the details of that too much, other than to say, at $300 a pop, chewing through rear tyres isn’t exactly a cheap exercise.Īnyway next thing you know, my wheels are all fitted up and I’m back on the road with not just a pair of new Pirelli’s but a new flashy helmet as well. So there I was, rolling into my local dealer in the market for a new set of tyres, Pirelli Rally STR’s to be exact. Ive since clocked up about 6000km’s and with the help of a few overtime shifts here and there, I’ve been slowly filling up my gearbag with all the right adventure gear. About 18 months ago I bought my first adventure bike, a Honda Africa Twin.
